MY APPROACH TO COUNTY COUNCIL
The first step in effective constituent representation is seeking out the various opinions about the most critical issues facing the district. Effective leaders ask smart questions, and then listen carefully to what is said. It’s not about selling their ideas; it’s about listening to yours.
In addition to seeking constituent opinions, effective leaders study the facts related to the key issues, to get a feel for the most likely consequences before deciding what side of the issue to stand on. Important decisions should not be made without considering ALL the relevant facts.
To be an effective leader, it’s important to understand what leadership is, and what it isn’t. The best leaders demonstrate sound judgment, have excellent relationship skills, and are honest at all cost. Leadership is not manipulating the facts to support personal or “insider” agendas.
